when nothing seems to work, I did an improper shut-down and got the msg "disk read error" and was told to restart using ctrl-alt-del. Having done that many times, I still get the same response. I can't make it to the desktop stage. Please help! Michelle.

It appears to be a disc-read error. This data is fairly important. Can anyone advise? If a rebuild doesn't completely fix a table, you have limited options.. of a "disk-read" error won't even let you access the table, you are just about SOL.. there is no substitute for regular backups.
